SILT: Sustainable Iowa Land Trust Store
May need to change: The Sustainable Iowa Land Trust (SILT) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting Iowa land for food, farming and conservation with a vision of safeguarding the legacy of family farms that grow a variety of crops, including fresh food for people to eat. Founded in 2015 by two dozen leaders in agriculture, development and planning, SILT’s mission is to preserve Iowa farmland for sustainable table food farming, ensuring that future generations of Iowans can access affordable farmland and the food it can grow. SILT has already preserved over 1,200 acres on 16 farms and continues to expand. SILT's Circle Our Cities campaign works in tandem with larger communities to 'circle' cities with permanent food farms for ensure access to fresh and healthy food for residents. Ongoing support is vital for the success of these initiatives happening all across the state of Iowa.
