Feed the Rangers by Oso Strategics Store

In many parks, Parks Rangers spend some of their time talking to visitors about proper food storage. Bears, deer, squirrels, raccoons, ravens, and all sorts of other animals will  happily steal a visitor’s food in an instant!
When Oso Strategics’ founder, Joe, was a Park Ranger in Yosemite National Park, he and his coworkers spent a lot of time walking through Yosemite’s campgrounds and talking to visitors about storing their food. Yosemite’s bears, in particular, are infamous for sneaking into campsites, and stealing food while people’s backs are turned. Oftentimes, these patrols were conducted in the evening during dinner, and visitors were all too eager to talk to a Park Ranger and offer them a snack. Joe has fond memories of peanut butter cup s’mores, homemade chorizo, and bison sliders. After a while, Joe and his fellow rangers came up with a saying, “Feed the rangers, not the bears!” 

Today, Joe is no longer a Park Ranger, but he still believes we should “Feed the Rangers.” Park Rangers work on the front lines to protect some of the most majestic, unique, and culturally significant places on earth: our parks and public lands. Park Rangers work in difficult, sometimes hazardous, conditions. Sometimes, Park Rangers are personally impacted by the disasters that impact their parks, like wildfires or floods, or lose their jobs through no fault of their own. And sometimes, the organizations Park Rangers work for aren’t able to care of them the way they should.

At Oso Strategics, our goal is to “Feed The Rangers” by supporting non-profit organizations that focus on the needs of park rangers. Profits from the sale of our “Feed The Rangers” products are donated to organizations like the Association of National Park Rangers (ANPR), which maintains a “Ranger Relief” fund for rangers impacted by disasters and job loss. Other organizations we support provide training, education, and equipment grants to Park Rangers across the globe.
